Q: Will The Floor Be Cold?
The physical warmth of the stained concrete floor will be the same as a tile floor. However, you will not have grout lines to keep clean and the design possibilities are endless because the concrete is our “blank canvas.”
Q: How Will We Take Care of The Floor?
You will spend very little time doing maintenance. The urethanes, acrylics and the wax will only require a dust mop or an occasional damp mop. The wax may need a re-wax in a couple of years, but no more carpet cleaning.
Is This Custom Flooring as Expensive as it Looks?
It looks expensive, but it is usually cost comparable to high-end vinyl or the low-end of tile. This is perfect for commercial applications where start-up costs can easily escalate, plus you gain the added benefit of very low-maintenance expenses like waxing, buffing and carpet cleaning.
Will Scoring a Design Hurt The Concrete?
We only score the concrete about 1/8″ deep. This is not deep enough to affect the integrity of the concrete, even in post-tension slabs. Also, the score line is not deep enough to collect dirt and debris. It is just deep enough to create a design or pattern.
What If I Have Cracks in My Floor?
GREAT! Almost every slab will crack. For the most part ,cracks really enhance the “old world” look of stone or marble. We even take advantage of neat looking cracks and highlight them. The only time cracks are an issue is if they are a trip hazard, and then we will offer alternatives and recommendations on how to deal effectively with them.
What If I Decide to Change My Flooring Several Years From Now?
No problem! Because the coloration is permanent, we cannot take it off or stain a new color over it. However, because the floor is your concrete substrate, you can install any flooring directly over the concrete without the expense of removing it.
In the Case of New Construction…At What Point in Time Should We Contact You?
Please contact us before you pour your slab. We will offer suggestions on how to enhance the look of your stained concrete floor for almost no added expense. If the slab is already poured, we would like to discuss the preservation of your slab during construction. Finally, we like to stain after the interior painting is complete and before base boards are installed. A joint effort during construction provides the best results for our valued customers.
Will You Offer Design Suggestion For Us?
Most certainly! However, we recommend that you try our assisted design method. We will show you an easy way to experiment with different designs and then you come up with a concept you like. Then we will offer suggestions and items to consider based on our experience. This process results in a floor that reflects personality and design preferences.
How Do We Go About Hiring a Qualified Contractor?
We strongly recommend you contact the California Contractor’s State License Board at www.cslb.ca.gov for information on hiring a contractor. There is good information there and it will be helpful in determining who is best suited to work for you. It is our hope that after reviewing how contracting should be done and seeing how we do business you will provide us an opportunity to consult on your project.
